A New Covid 19 Update Note from the Interim Moderator (April 2, 2021)
As you know, the pandemic has picked up speed again. Numbers of cases are rising at an alarming rate in Hastings Prince Edward. On April 1st the province announced we will return to a shutdown for a while. I wish I could say this was all an April Fool’s joke, but sadly it is real. No joke.
Unfortunately, this means the Session has had to make a difficult decision about re-opening the sanctuary for public worship. With numbers in our own region being what they are, it is simply not safe to gather, and so we will not be worshipping in our building for a while yet.
It is hard enough to be living under the necessary restrictions the pandemic has created, but to be going into a second Easter weekend without being able to worship in person makes it particularly difficult. Jesus’ death and resurrection are at the heart of our faith, they are its foundation. We always look forward to joining our hearts and voices as we celebrate the resurrection. Again this year we will be worshipping at home, missing the volume of voices declaring ‘He is risen indeed!’
The Session is disappointed too, but take heart, there is light in the darkness.
Easter reassures us the best thing about Jesus is that he simply cannot be defeated and our salvation is set! As the Christian band Casting Crown says in their song Glorious Day,
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose over death He had conquered
Now is ascended my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him
The grave could not keep Him
From rising again
Living He loved me dying He saved me
Buried He carried my sins far away
Rising He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
O glorious day

As we move into Easter weekend, I urge you to take every precaution to stay safe and well. Jesus will rise from the grave; not even the pandemic can stop the story from being told and celebrated. Don’t let it stop you from sharing the story and declaring the good news: He is risen… he is risen indeed!
My prayer for you…
We are disappointed not to be gathering for worship this weekend, but we are grateful that the story will still be told and we will still worship and praise your holy name. We thank you for what you have done for us, and that you continue to fulfil your promise for all who believe and call on your name. Death could not hold you; the grave could not keep you; your resurrection gives us life. Be with us as we make the journey with the women to the empty tomb. Make your presence known by your Spirit and fill us with the joy of Easter. In your holy name we pray. Amen.
May you enjoy a blessed Easter weekend,
Rev. Jennifer, Interim Moderator
